Amos Gould was born in Aurelius (N.Y.) on Dec. 3, 1808. Educated, he worked in the office of William H. Steward, then Governor of New York (State). He was admitted to the bar in 1832. He moved to Owosso (Mich.) in 1843. He speculated in Mich. in land, began a lumber business, practiced law, served as the attorney for the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad Company, 1852-1881, and was involved with the establishment of the Amboy, Lansing, and Traverse Bay Railroad. Clark received his B.M. from Michigan in 1954. He also received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at Cambridge in 1962-1963. He joined the faculty of KU in 1965, reaching full Professor status in 1975. He retired in 1993. From the guide to the Personal Papers of J.
